But I find that each time I rewatch the series, the funnier its silly jokes get.
Ouran also has more of that classic 'anime' comedy that is completely over-the-top. There is a reason it has been, and will continue to be, adapted again and again. Hana Yori Dango, on the other hand, has the better love story of the two. All of them, especially when explored in the manga, and three-dimensional and complement each other beautifully.

Hana Yori Dango had the advantage of focusing on Makino and Domyouji (and Rui, I suppose), which allowed them to portray the timeless romance to (almost) its full potential.īoth are timeless Japanese classics in their own genre, and while Ouran may not be considered as 'high brow', it has it's own genius about it that viewers of Hana Yori Dango will definitely appreciate.Īs for differences? They didn't do a bad job - it was still there - there just simply wasn't enough of it. Unfortuneatly, with only 26 episodes (that focused heavily on every other character), Ouran didn't really get to explore Tamaki and Haruhi's relatioship in a way that was true to the manga. They also, of course, both have beautiful romances between the leads. This definitely runs truer with the manga versions, however the core values are still there in the adaptations. Tamaki and Domyouji are two completely contrasting characters as male leads, however they both have this child-like naivety about them, which complement each anime's plot. I feel that, at the core, both stories are supremely innocent and beautiful. Memories are all the sweeter when experienced with friends, whether old or new! Surely there must be many, many memories waiting to be made on this island, and best of all, with her beloved Legendary Summoner.While the two do have similar plots of a 'common' girl being thrown into a super rich school full of hot guys, the similarities run a bit deeper than that.
With so many things to do, Tilith set off exploring. Soon, Tilith found other people on the island, no doubt here as part of an out-of-season holiday destination. Legend has it that stars landed on the island to rest, and the stardust left in their wake seeped into the beaches, giving rise to the aptly named "starsand." Unsurprisingly, this has given rise to the idea that the island brims with wish-granting magics. This was the fabled Starfall Island she had wanted to visit with her Summoner! Though most would rightly question the exact details of how-and more importantly, why-one could so easily teleport to a destination seen only in the mind's eye, Tilith felt only bliss in that moment not to mention an overwhelming desire to jump for joy. Following the burst of light and sound, the gentle caress of sunlight greeted the goddess, and an endless expanse of golden sand stretched out before her. Normally, such tales end in comical disaster at best and terrible tragedy at worst, but not for one so pure of heart and sincere intention. Even the guardian goddess of humanity needs to recharge! And so it was that Tilith poured all her heart and soul into a wish-and this time, something answered. Quick! Take my hand, and let's make a wish!Īfter an untold number of world-hopping adventures and endless acts of derring-do, Tilith had to admit she was past due for a well-deserved break.
